Air Namibia has been given a two week extension to submit the correct documents for the renewal of its Air Operator’s Certificate in Namibia.
This is according to Michell Fourie, sales and marketing manager South Africa for Air Nambia. She adds that all operations are normal and not affected.
The Directorate of Civil Aviation (DCA), which regulates Air Namibia has granted the extension to give the airline time to comply with its standards and regulations. According to The Namibian, the airline initially refused to participate in a re-certification processes thinking it only applied to new airlines.
The DCA however, claims the process is as a result of new standards by ICAO, which apply to all airlines. A spokesperson for the DCA told the newspaper it didn't have intentions to ground Air Namibia but that the international standards had to be complied with.
The publication also published that the managing director, Theo Namases, as well as the general manager for airport services, Nokokure Katjiuongua, were suspended on Monday evening, pending an investigation. Michell did not comment on whether the two matters were related.
