Air travel round-up: AF launches Orlando flights

On May 21, Air France began four weekly flights between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Orlando.

Flights operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays using an Airbus A350-900. The flight departs Paris-Charles de Gaulle at 17h05 and arrives in Orlando at 20h45. The return flight departs Orlando at 23h00 and arrives in Paris at 13h30 the next day.

According to Simple Flying, plans are already under way to increase frequencies on this route. A fifth weekly service is expected from February 12, 2026, and daily services from March 29.

Etihad to double Rome flights

From May 28, Etihad doubled its daily flights between Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport and Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport.

The new daily flight EY83, previously operated by Wamos Air, departs Abu Dhabi at 14h10 and arrives in Rome at 18h45.

The return flight EY84 departs Rome at 22h50 and arrives in Abu Dhabi at 07h00 the following day.

United changes domestic check-in time

United Airlines will require all domestic passengers to be checked in for their flights 45 minutes before departure, starting June 3.

This will apply, regardless of whether passengers are checking a bag.

Currently, passengers flying domestically can check in just 30 minutes before departure if they are not checking a bag.

Lufthansa reopens First Class lounge in Munich

Lufthansa has officially reopened its First Class Lounge in Terminal 2 at Munich Airport following an extensive upgrade.

Covering approximately 1 000sqm, the redesigned lounge now offers an expanded suite of high-end amenities. The updated gastronomic zone features an à la carte restaurant, a live front-cooking buffet and a reimagined bar.

Beyond food and beverage, the lounge provides a selection of quiet relaxation areas, washrooms, dedicated workstations complete with printers and photocopiers, and multiple entertainment zones, including television lounges and a wide selection of international newspapers and magazines.

Open daily from 05h00 to 22h00, the lounge also includes a newly refurbished first-class check-in area.

Lufthansa offers direct flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Munich.
