Amsterdam to impose more pax caps

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport has announced it will impose passenger caps once again over the spring school holidays.

It is due to drop its current cap in March but the airport has now said a new cap will be imposed from the start of April until May 14, with the spring holidays running from April 29 to May 7.

According to Simple Flying, the number of passengers allowed to depart daily from the airport will be reduced by approximately 5 000 to create what the airport describes as an extra 5% safety margin. The new cap will allow for about 70 000 passengers to depart from the airport daily.

The airport, reportedly, hopes that it will only need to implement the cap during peak hours, from 06h00 to 13h00 daily.

Director of Corporate Affairs at Schiphol, Kees Boef, said the cap was necessary due to widespread staff shortages throughout the airport.

Earlier this month, Schiphol CEO, Ruud Sondag, warned that passenger caps might be necessary if a solution for the shortages wasn’t found.

According to The Points Guy, if a remedy is not found soon, the cap could continue into the summer holidays.
