Avis launches chatbot for direct bookings

Avis Car Rental Southern Africa has released a new booking tool, the Avis WhatsApp bot.

The car rental company launched the new AI booking management feature on its social media pages. The bot can be used to book or cancel Avis car rentals through WhatsApp messages.

The tool currently does not offer the ability to add a payment method, Iata numbers or rate codes, as “these are normally key fields for travel agents,” said Avis. As such, the tool is not recommended for travel advisors. However, the company added that the bot can be used to cancel a booking by clients who made their original booking through a travel agent.

“If an agent has made a booking for their client through conventional channels, the client can access their booking and cancel it using the WhatsApp bot,” said Avis.
