AIR Mauritius is on its way

to becoming a R1 billion

operation in South Africa

and its 2018 financials in this

market were up 22% from

2017.

Regional manager for South

Africa and Latin America,

Carla da Silva, shared this

at the annual Air Mauritius

Travel Oscar Awards in

Johannesburg on February 21.

 “According to the

Oxford Business Group,

the airline industry will

continue to expand and,

as a result, airlines and

aviation authorities are

pumping money into airport

infrastructure, route expansion

and fleet capacity,” she said.

She called on industry

partners to continue showing

support for each other,

adding: “We rely on the

support of our partners to

help us achieve this budget

so that we can continue

to grow frequencies and

schedules and introduce

new-generation aircraft and

technology in the region.”

Top prizewinner for the

night was Beachcomber

Tours, which walked away

with six awards, including Top

Performer, which the operator

has now won for the eleventh

consecutive year.

Other winners included One

Stop

Travel

and

Tours, who

walked away

with five awards, including

Highest Growth Partner and

Top Market Share Partner.

Travelstart’s Candice May

was awarded Most Innovative

Thinker. Cullinan Outbound

Tourism, The Holiday Factory

and Flight Centre Travel

Group were ranked fourth to

second of top

performers. The

Holiday Factory’s Matthew

Fubbs was named Industry

Personality of the Year, and

Thompsons Holidays’ Mary

Shilleto was greeted by

a standing ovation when

she was awarded special

recognition for her service to

the industry.
