Beware dodgy eVisa sites for Cambodia

A GENTS must be

wary of using third

party services

for Cambodian eVisa

applications.

“There are some

companies that are

profiteering and not

offering the correct

services, while others,

that offer the correct

service, often charge

excessive service

fees that cost more

than the eVisa,” says

a spokesperson for

the Royal Embassy of

Cambodia in London.

The Royal Embassy of

Cambodia to Australia

and New Zealand, has

warned travellers against

fake sites, such as

cambodiaonarrival.com,

cambodiaevisa.com and

welovecambodia.com.

Other visa

application sites, like

cambodiaonlinevisa.org

also exist.

This website is run

by independent agents

who offer assistance

with the applications

process, but charge

fees higher than the

cost of the visa.

On cambodiaonlinevisa.

org an eVisa costs R516

(USD40). An additional

service fee of R630

(USD49) is also charged.

“The best way to

apply for an eVisa is

through the official

government website,”

the spokesperson for

the Royal Embassy in

London says.

As Cambodia has no

representation in South

Africa, South African

travellers can apply for

either an eVisa or a

visa-on-arrival.

The official website for

Cambodian eVisas is

evisa.gov.kh.

A single entry tourist

eVisa is R386 (USD30)

with an additional R77

(USD6) processing charge.

Alet Steyn, general

Tours SA, recommends

using the official website

for eVisa applications.

“We’ve not had any

problems with applications

made through the official

website. So why pay extra

when you don’t have to?”

she says.
