Bomb scare on FlySafair flight

On Thursday evening, a FlySafair flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg was delayed due to a possible bomb threat.

Cape Town International Airport posted on X that Acsa had called on the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) bomb squad to investigate and sweep the aircraft after cabin crew were alerted to the possible security threat.

According to an Acsa press release, the reported security threat was an isolated incident triggered by comments made by two passengers on board the aircraft.

“It must be made clear that the incident was isolated to a specific aircraft and SAPS has since declared the aircraft safe. We can confirm that two suspects were apprehended and that there are no further risks to airport operations,” said Acsa.

Kirby Gordon, FlySafair’s Chief Marketing Officer, confirmed to Travel News that a security alert involved one of the carrier’s aircraft.

“When a threat of this nature is determined the scene and process are handed over to SAPS as an active crime scene and investigation. As a result, our crew, passengers and aircraft have to remain in place while the authorities manage the necessary tasks. More than this we have no real information, which will need to come from SAPS,” he said.

Flight FA102, scheduled to depart at 17h25, was declared safe at 22h00, reported news24.com.
