‘Careful who you deal with’ - Asata

Asata has reacted to the Priority Escapes’ debacle (the sudden closure on August 12, which left consumers seriously out of pocket after they paid for Maldives holidays) sending out a message to consumers to deal only with reputable agents. 

Otto de Vries, Asata CEO, has issued a release saying that the situation underlines the importance of selecting a reliable travel agent, pointing out that Priority Escapes was not among its members.  

Although the travel industry in South Africa is not regulated, Asata acts as a ‘semi-regulator’, ensuring travellers connect with reputable professionals. 

Asata says its accredited agents offer consumers:  

1.Professionalism and a rigorous standard of conduct. 
2. Financial security – Asata agencies consistently demonstrate sound financial practices. 
3.Up-to-date expertise – continuous training ensures Asata agents stay up to date. 
4.Ethical operations – agencies are committed to transparency, honesty, and integrity. 
5.Customer advocacy – agencies prioritise travellers' needs, pledging to address and resolve any arising issues. 
6.Code of conduct – members need to abide by a strict code of conduct, constitution and the Asata charter.  

"Committing significant funds for holidays means consumers need assurance. The challenge lies in discerning credible travel companies from the many.
