CemAir has added some extra flights for today, Thursday July 15, between Johannesburg and Durban and Johannesburg and Margate on the KZN South Coast, and for Saturday, July 17.
The airline has taken these measures due to the current unrest in KZN. The additional Durban flights will serve to cater for the current lack of capacity between Johannesburg and Durban (with BA Comair and kulula.com out of the picture until August 31, and Mango operating two aircraft only to cover all its routes). In the case of the Margate flights, CemAir is the only carrier with scheduled flights on the route. Certain stretches of road on the route between Johannesburg and lower South Coast, which is served by Margate Airport, have been deemed unsafe or have been closed – hence the need for extra flights.
