A cholera infection in Nigeria has reportedly spread to the major city of Lagos, where three people have died.
Lagos health commissioner, Jide Idris, was reported in the Nigerian Tribune, saying 13 people had been diagnosed with cholera in Lagos. “Although many of the cases have been treated and patients discharged in several health facilities, three have been confirmed dead,” he says.
A travel alert by Sitata has urged travellers who visit Nigeria to reduce the risk of exposure to the infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If travellers develop gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea, they should immediately seek medical.
There have also been Cholera outbreaks in Namu village in Nigeria’s central Plateau state. The disease has killed 50 people in the North Western state of Zamfara over the past 10 days.
