The tap-and-go payment option currently being piloted by Nedbank at the Gautrain station in Sandton is currently only at pilot stage with select clients.
On Thursday, November 2, Nedbank introduced the contactless card payment option for Gautrain commuters as one of its newest innovations. Confusion was caused among some commuters as to whether they could begin using this service immediately.
But Nedbank has since said in a statement that the service, which in time will become available to all commuters irrespective of who they bank with, is not yet active to the public, and commuters must continue to use their Gautrain Gold Cards.
"The go-live date for this service will be communicated by the Gautrain Management Agency and Bombela once the payment platforum solution is ready," the statement read.
