Drunk World Cup fans will go to ‘sober up zones’

FIFA World Cup 2022 CEO Nasser Al Khater has revealed that excessively drunk fans at the tournament will be taken to “a safe place to sober up” if they cannot behave themselves.

"I know that there are plans in place for people to sober up if they have been drinking excessively; a place to make sure that they keep themselves safe, that they are not harmful to anyone else, and that they do not get themselves hurt. I think it’s a good idea," Al Khater told Sky News.

Fans have been sceptical about the drinking rules at the tournament as Qatar has a strict ‘no alcohol consumption in public’ law.

However, Al Khater has revealed that the country will be relaxing some of its strict rules and has promised that alcohol will be available in fan zones and outside stadiums during the World Cup, although consumption will not be allowed inside the grounds.
