The Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Bangladesh, is believed to be the first international airport in South Asia to launch an Automatic Border Control System (e-gate).

According to Daily Bangladesh, since June 7, the use of e-gates has allowed travellers who hold e-passports to pass through immigration in 18 seconds. There are 12 e-gates in departures and three in arrivals.
