Qatar Airways has allegedly been picked as the new airline sponsor of Formula 1, according to SportBusiness, although no official confirmation has been received yet. The airline has reportedly paid twice as much as the previous sponsor, Emirates, to hold the rights for five years.
Emirates has been paying US$25m (R428,9m) a year from 2018-2022 to remain the official airline sponsor.
F1’s newest global partner is expected to make the announcement before the first race of the 2023 season taking place in Bahrain from March 3-5.
