Finally! Cover for active oldies

BRYTE Insurance has introduced

a new Exclusive Senior plan that

caters for travellers between the

ages of 85 and 89 years. This fills a

gap in the market for travel insurance

cover for over-85s that agents have long

bemoaned.

The increased age limit is brilliant

news for the market, says independent

travel consultant, Lucinda May. “There

has been a huge gap in the market

for travel insurance cover for this

age group. There are many active

people travelling over the age of 85.

It has been a nightmare to try and

find insurance for this age group,

particularly for South African passport

holders who require insurance in order

to apply for Schengen visas,” she says.

The Exclusive Senior plan includes

cover of up to R1 million for emergency

medical and related expenses.

Other benefits include cancellation

cover up to R10 000; baggage cover up

to R15 000; travel delay cover up to

R3 000 and a new cruise cover benefit

of up to R2 500.

“It is important to note that the

excess on this plan is R100 000. We

require a medical clearance form to

be completed by the traveller’s local

treating medical practitioner, confirming

medical aid details and that the

BRYTE Insurance has introduced

traveller is fit to travel. Cover

is subject to pre-approval by

Bryte,” says Anrieth Symon,

head of travel for Bryte

Insurance.

TIC currently insures

passengers up to the age of

85. Oojah Travel Protection,

which administers Hollard

Travel Insurance, covers

passengers up to the age

of 81.

Bryte has also introduced

an optional cardiac, cardio

vascular, vascular or cerebrovascular buy-back option for

travellers between the ages of

70 and 79 years of age.

“This optional cover is

available on our Business and

Vintage plans only. Important

conditions to note are that we

require a medical clearance

form to be completed by

the travellers’ local treating

medical practitioner or

cardiologist, confirming that

the traveller is fit to travel.

Cover is subject to preapproval by Bryte and

provides up to R150 000 for

emergency medical and

related expenses for a

maximum of 30 days from

the first day of travel, when

the traveller is admitted to

hospital as an in-patient

for 48 hours or longer,”

says Anrieth.

Hollard Travel Insurance

does not have a cardio

exclusion clause, which

means that all clients

up to the age of 81 are

automatically covered for

medical cases of this

nature
