France is set to become the most-visited country in the world by 2025, according to the latest report by GlobalData.

It topped the list of most-visited countries in 2019, with 88,1 million visitors, however was overtaken by Spain in 2021.

Last year, France saw 66,6 million arrivals, and with an estimated compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12,1% between 2022 and 2025, it could soon be at the top once again.

According to estimates in the Tourism Destination Market Insight: Western Europe (2022) report, France will attract 93,7 million international travellers by 2025, compared with Spain, which is expected to receive 89,5 million visitors by the same year.

According to Travel and Tourism Analyst at GlobalData, Hannah Free, France is not only popular with travellers from Europe itself, but also with those from further afar, including China and the United States.

Its popularity has been partly attributed to its transportation system, as travel between major cities is made relatively easy by high-speed trains.

Free also points out that both France and Spain will continue to see high visitation numbers in the years to come, due to their strong pull through festivals, gastronomy, and culture. She notes that both countries have a lot to offer, including their unique cultures, cuisines, atmospheres, diverse and varied landscapes, and unique coastlines.
