Greece to roll out cruise tax

Greece confirmed that it would implement a cruise passenger tax of up to €20 (R415) from July 1.

At cruise ports in Santorini and Mykonos, the fee will start at €4 (R83) in low season (November-March), €12 (R250) in the shoulder season (April-May) and €20 (R416) during the peak season (June-September).

At other ports in the country it ranges from €1 (R21) in low season, €3 (R63) in the shoulder season and €5 (R104) in peak season.

According to Greek Travel Pages, the fee will be collected at the point of disembarkation and will be used to improve port infrastructure, support sustainable tourism initiatives, and fund local development.

The fee was originally scheduled to begin in June, but was suspended due to seismic activity in Santorini, which led to a halt in cruise ship traffic.
