TWO endangered Komodo dragons - there are only 3 500 left in the wild, mainly on the Indonesian island of Komodo - will be unveiled to the public at the Pretoria Zoo during the April holidays.
The Komodo dragons, the world's largest lizard species and the first of their kind in Africa, were donated to the zoo by President Nelson Mandela after he received them from the President of Indonesia last year.
According to deputy director of the Pretoria Zoo, Sarita Cronje, the lizards are in good health and their new enclosure should be ready within eight weeks.
They are currently being housed at the zoo in a temperature-controlled, insect-proofed holding facility.
