Hong Kong denies visa-free entry for Eswatini

Hong Kong’s Immigration Department will no longer offer visa-free entry to travellers from the Kingdom of Eswatini.

Under current regulations, Eswatini visitors will only be able to visit Hong Kong for up to 90 days without a visa until January 30.

“Hong Kong has all along adopted an open visa policy, under which nationals of about 170 countries and territories may visit Hong Kong visa-free,” an Immigration Department spokesperson told Hong Kong-based publication HKFP.

The new regulations mean that those travelling on an Eswatini passport will require a visa for any period of time spent in the region, including transiting through Hong Kong’s airport.

“The Immigration Department reviews its visa policy from time to time and makes adjustments as necessary to uphold immigration control while facilitating travel convenience for genuine visitors,” the spokesperson said.

South Africans visiting Hong Kong still do not require a visa to stay up to 90 days.
