Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport, Chennai International Airport and Thiruvananthapuram International Airport have boosted screening for all passengers arriving from a group of countries, among them South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya, and Nigeria, to mitigate the risk of an Mpox outbreak.
The measures follow India’s first two confirmed Mpox cases, identified during September, reports Times of India.
The airports have set up additional testing kiosks. All passengers with elevated temperatures are being tested at the airports and local hospitals.
Any passengers found to be positive have to undergo a mandatory 21-day quarantine and isolation at local hospitals.
