Flights between Johannesburg and Dubai were ranked in the top 10 busiest routes in the African region for January 2024, based on the volume of scheduled airline seats.

The route, which had 85 014 scheduled airline seats in January, was the 10th busiest this month, following Cairo to Doha (94 566 seats) and Paris and St Denis in Reunion Island (95 146 seats).

The busiest route in the African region was between Cairo and Jeddah, with 468 103 seats, not far behind the world’s busiest international flight between Hong Kong and Taipei with 546 276 seats.

This information comes from the Official Airline Guide’s (OAG) latest report. The aviation analyst has the largest and most established independent network of flight schedules and flight status data in the world.

The route between Johannesburg and Dubai has long been a popular trip for South Africans, with OAG listing it as the most lucrative flight out of South Africa as far back as 2019.
