Kenya has formally asked the Ghanaian government to allow Kenya Airways to establish a secondary hub in Accra.

The Kenya Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary, Davis Chirchir, revealed on a post on X on May 8, he attended a meeting with the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Mahama, to discuss Kenya and Ghana’s connectivity for the sake of trade and travel.

“In the spirit of enhancing people-to-people contacts and advancing commercial linkages to strengthen intra-Africa trade, as envisioned under the African Continental Free Trade Area Headquarters in Accra, I requested (that) H.E. John Mahama (grant) Kenya's National carrier (permission) to establish a secondary hub in Accra to enhance connectivity to West Africa and the rest of the world,” Chirchir said in the post.

According to Chirchir, the Accra hub would foster connectivity between West Africa and global markets and improve trade, tourism, investment, and economic prosperity in Ghana and western Africa.
