Formula One is in "serious" negotiations with Kyalami Race Track to bring the sport back to South Africa, as it works to finalise its 2023 calendar, reports racing news publication, Racer.

Although it is most likely that South Africa will only be added to the schedule in 2024, there is a possibility of this happening as early as next year.

The last South African Grand Prix took place in 1993 at the circuit, with F1 not having raced on the African continent since then.

F1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali, intends to travel to South Africa next week for further discussions, according to Racer.

The racetrack is currently not yet an FIA ‘Grade 1’ Circuit, and to achieve this, further renovations will need to be completed.
