A brand-new sleeper train will allow passengers to travel from London to Stockholm in less than 24 hours, according to EuroNews.

The EuroNight service, which is due to start in September, will transport passengers between Hamburg in Germany and Sweden’s capital city. Combined with existing Eurostar services to Hamburg, it will cut train travel time between Stockholm and London to roughly one day.

Previously, travellers from London had to stop overnight in a European city and then catch a day train to Sweden the next day. The new sleeper train has changed all that.

From London, pax catch the Eurostar to Brussels, roughly two hours. Travellers are advised to book an early Eurostar (08h16) train to ensure arrival before midday, to be safe.

Then from Brussels Midi Station, they must take the train to Hamburg-Altona, changing at Cologne HbF. This part of the journey will take roughly seven hours.

At Hamburg they then board the sleeper train to Stockholm. The 21h55 service will arrive in Stockholm roughly 12 hours after passengers boarded the train in Brussels.

The EuroNight train is powered by renewable energy. Swedish operator SJ uses electricity from hydropower and wind turbines. Drivers will use ‘freewheeling’ techniques to minimise energy use.
