Lufthansa rolls out baggage pick-up service

Lufthansa has introduced a new baggage collection and check-in service, allowing passengers departing from Frankfurt to pre-arrange for their luggage to be collected from their hotel or home so that they can travel to the airport without having to carry heavy luggage.

The service is being offered in partnership with technology provider, AirPortr, and can be booked on Lufthansa’s website up to 36 hours before departure. After pick-up, the luggage is immediately sealed and brought to the airport and checked in. Travellers will receive real-time updates via a tracking link and digital baggage receipt.

Upon arrival at the airport, passengers can proceed directly to the security checkpoint and will collect their luggage only when arriving at their destination.

The service is available to customers in the greater Frankfurt, Mannheim, Heidelberg, Hanau, Aschaffenburg, Wiesbaden, Mainz, Darmstadt and Bensheim areas, with further expansion planned in the future. Pricing starts from €25 (R480) and varies based on location and pick-up time.
