The Maldives has opened a new passenger terminal at Male’s Velana International Airport, expanding annual capacity to 7,5 million passengers, more than triple the previous limit.
The US$585million (R10,2bn) facility features 12 aero boarding bridges and advanced baggage handling systems to address congestion issues at the airport. It includes 47 check-in counters, six self-service kiosks, 20 immigration counters and six boarding gates, according to Business Traveller.
