NCL calls off 38 cruises, including SA

Norwegian Cruise Line has cancelled 38 sailings across three of its ships, including the deployment of Norwegian Dawn to South African shores.

The cancellations affect all sailings on these vessels between November 2025 and April 2026. The Norwegian Dawn was scheduled to depart from Cape Town on November 26 for a 12-night cruise with stops in Madagascar and Réunion. A second cruise from Cape Town with a similar itinerary was scheduled to depart on January 17.

In a message sent out to guests booked for these cruises and travel partners, NCL announced that all the vessel’s sailings between November 2025 and April 2026 had been cancelled as a result of fleet redeployment.

“Norwegian Dawn will be redeployed and will soon offer transatlantic voyages to explore diverse and historic destinations as well as itineraries to the Western Caribbean,” the cruise line said.

The Norwegian Jewel was originally scheduled to sail from Tampa to the Caribbean, Central America and the Bahamas but has now been redeployed to sail from Miami to the Bahamas, Southern Caribbean and Panama Canal.

The Norwegian Star was set to sail in South America and Antarctica this cruise season but has similarly been redeployed to offer transatlantic trips and itineraries in the Bahamas and southern Caribbean.

The cruise line said itineraries occasionally needed to be cancelled so that the cruise line could introduce sailings that accommodated a higher guest demand. The new itineraries will be available for booking from November 29, 2024.

Guests have been automatically refunded the full monetary value of their ticket in the original form of payment at the time of reservation. “The refund will be automatically processed within 30 business days,” the cruise line said. It is also extending a 10% discount in the form of an FCC to be used on any published sailings through December 31, 2026.

NCL’s Southern Africa sailings on Norwegian Dawn and Norwegian Sky for the 2024/2025 cruise season are unaffected by these changes.
