A new airline is coming…

FORMER chairperson of

failed Skywise, Javed Malik,

is forging ahead with plans

to launch a new airline – Fly

Cobra – which he says could

take to the skies before the

end of the year.

The Department of

Transport confirmed that the

airline was awarded domestic

and international air service

licences for scheduled and

unscheduled services in

2018. TNW reported in

December that year that

flights were expected to

launch mid-2019.

Javed told TNW that while

it would be premature to

announce planned routes,

Johannesburg to Cape Town

and Johannesburg to Durban

would be key to the success

of the new venture.

He said the airline had

applied for a number of

international routes, including

Johannesburg to Mauritius.

He added that there was a

lot of groundwork to be done

before Fly Cobra would be

ready to launch this route.

Ceo of Travelstart, Stephan

Ekbergh, confirmed that

the OTA was in talks with

Fly Cobra about promoting

its flights. “New airlines are

good for competition and

bring down prices and we are

therefore always happy to

engage in discussions with

new ventures. Travelstart

wants to be able to offer

customers the broadest and

deepest supply of available

flights to choose from.”
