China’s first domestically built large cruise ship, Adora Magic City, which completed its inaugural sea trial on July 17, is set for delivery at the end of the year, reports marineinsight.com.

After its eight-day trial voyage from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Corporation, the ship returned to its homeport in Shanghai. Engineers conducted more than 60 function tests to assess power, propulsion control and critical systems. Amenities were tested for passenger comfort.

Construction of the ship started in October 2019, following an agreement between the China State Shipbuilding Corporation, Carnival Corporation and Italian shipbuilding company Fincantiera.

Following the July trial, the ship’s equipment will undergo further fine-tuning and the interior decoration will be finalised. The next sea trial is scheduled before October.

Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Corporation GM, Chen Gang, is optimistic that the floating luxury hotel will be delivered according to schedule by the end of the year.

Adora Magic City is 72m high, equivalent to a 25-storey residential building, with 14 decks. It can accommodate 5 246 passengers across 2 125 guest rooms and 700 crew rooms and will feature luxury facilities, cinemas and a water park. By comparison, Wonder of the Seas, the largest ship in the world, is also 72m high, accommodates 6 998 guests and has 18 decks.

The Chinese-built ship plans to operate cruises by Adora Cruises to southeast and northeast Asian destinations before launching long-haul routes such as the Maritime Silk Road route, connecting China with India, the Arabian Peninsula, Somalia, Egypt and Europe, according to chinadaily.com.cn.
