No more masks on KLM outbound flights

20 May 2022

In line with the European Aviation Authority’s recent change to recommended guidelines for the European Union, the Netherlands has confirmed the dropping of the mandate for mask-wearing in Dutch airports from May 21.

KLM has announced that from that day, the use of face masks is no longer mandatory onboard aircrafts to the Netherlands and at Dutch airports. However, the airline points out that, should the country of destination still require the use of face masks on board, passengers should comply.

It is now possible for fully vaccinated travellers from South Africa to enter the Netherlands with no quarantine restrictions or test requirements. They must show proof of vaccination and complete a Vaccine Declaration COVID-19 form before departure.

The EU entry ban still applies for unvaccinated travellers who may only enter the Netherlands if they fall under one of the exemption categories. A Health Declaration is also still required.

Travel to the Netherlands is still subject to normal visa requirements.

It is mandatory to wear masks in the buildings of South African airports.
