Norway opens, but numbers climb

20 Oct 2021

Following Norway’s October 1 announcement that it would allow vaccinated foreign tourists to enter en masse and allow its citizens to travel to the destinations of their choice, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has now placed three regions of the country on a red list after COVID infection numbers in these areas started to climb, reports SchengenVisaInfo. They are Troms& Finnmark, Nordland and Trøndelag.

As a result, travel to or from any of these regions is highly discouraged, especially for the unvaccinated.

Travellers from red-list areas who are unvaccinated, when travelling to EU states, are required to follow testing and quarantine rules. The fully immunised or those who have recovered from the virus during the last six months are permitted to enter restriction-free. Nonetheless, since each EU country has the right to decide on its coronavirus-related rules, it is important to check the EU destination’s restrictions before travel.

Even though half of Norway is now on the red list, two of its regions, Agder and Rogaland, have now moved from the orange list to the green. Travel from the EU to these regions is no longer discouraged as they are considered safe. But the remaining regions – Vestfold&Telemark, Viken, Oslo, Innlandet, Møre& Romsdal and Vestland – remain part of the orange list, meaning that travel to and from these areas is not discouraged provided that everyone follows COVID-19 requirements.
