Vaccination seems to be the key to unlocking foreign travel for South Africans. In a recent poll on Travel News, 46% of agents said their clients didn’t want to travel overseas or locally right now, and would wait for vaccinations before they took any trips. Another 39% thought there was lots of pent-up demand for foreign travel as soon as travel to foreign places was possible, and 15% of respondents said local was lekker, and that their clients were interested in local trips only. South Africans cannot freely enter most EU countries, the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Israel or the UAE. And, if they find a country that will take them as leisure visitors, South Africa’s currently constricted airlift will not necessarily be able to get them there.
Poll result: Foreign travel is on hold
