Qatar Airways is to adopt Avios as its loyalty rewards programme from late March this year.
The airline made the announcement on February 22.
All Privilege Club members will experience a seamless transition into the new reward currency, with clients’ existing Qmiles automatically transferred to Avios on a 1:1 ratio basis.
Qatar Airways Group CEO, Akbar Al Baker, said: “The transition from Qmiles to Avios marks a groundbreaking new era for Privilege Club, enabling our loyal members to participate in the most compelling loyalty network and the largest portfolio of partners in the industry.”
Avios is described by Adam Daniels, CEO of IAG Loyalty, which owns and manages the Avios currency, as a global loyalty currency used by British Airways Executive Club, AerClub, Iberia Plus and Vueling Club.
“Through its existing programmes, Avios can be collected across a wide mix of consumer sectors, including aviation, travel, leisure, shopping and financial services.
“Qatar Airways has recognised the power of Avios. It’s an exciting step for IAG Loyalty as we extend our leadership in loyalty, increase Avios’s global reach, and build out our partnership strategy even further.”
The airline and IAG Loyalty say they are working to introduce new customer benefits from the partnership, as well as more ways to earn and collect Avios around the world in the coming months.
Qatar Airways’ Privilege Club members will be able to earn Avios when flying with Qatar Airways, oneworld airline partners, and other airline partners, plus a number of financial and lifestyle partners. Avios may be used towards a range of rewards including award flights, cabin upgrades, extra baggage and much more.
Privilege Club recently extended the tier status of its members. Silver, Gold and Platinum members whose tier status was due for renewal between December 2021 and December 2022 have had the validity extended to December 31, 2022.
Privilege Club is also the Official Frequent Flyer Programme of the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar this year.
