Red Carnation Hotels has launched 100 Princes Street Hotel in Edinburgh.

The 30-bedroom hotel is a mansion built in 1867 and was previously the residence of Lady Rosemary Clerk and Sir John Clerk. The mansion later became the home of a private club, the Royal Overseas League.

100 Princes Street was restored with design by Toni Tollman, Philippe Bonino and Brian Brennan, the team behind the design of Ashford Castle in Ireland and Xigera Safari Lodge in Botswana.

100 Princes Steet offers a view of Edinburgh Castle from many of its rooms and a centrepiece wine wall has over 200 wines and whiskies. A feature is a staircase with a hand-painted mural by Croxford and Saunders inspired by historic Scottish explorers.

Rates at 100 Princes Street start from £720 (R16 715) per room for an Executive King room, according to redcarnationhotels.com.

Red Carnation Hotels has 18 properties around the world. The hotels include the Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Wellness Retreat, The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, The Oyster Box in South Africa, the Xigera Safari Lodge in Botswana and other hotels in Guernsey, the UK and Ireland.
