SA MasterChef creates premium menu for airline

Lift Airline has partnered with MasterChef South Africa (SA) 2022 winner, Shawn Godfrey, to create a luxury dining experience for Lift Premium passengers. 

The meals he designs will be available on board for those passengers who buy premium tickets.  

Godfrey, born in Gqeberha, was originally an engineer. Last year after winning MasterChef SA, he started his own food and catering company, The Roasted Dad.  

“It’s important to be strategic about the meals served on a plane. In addition, being mindful that South Africa is a melting pot of beautiful diversity, all food suppliers and products used by Lift are halaal friendly,” Godfrey told iol.com. 

Dishes featured on the menu include a smoked trout, caper and lemon salad for a breakfast snack, a cream cheese and herb pap tart, served with Moroccan pulled lamb, yoghurt and micro herbs for a lunch or dinner snack, and a variety of desserts. See the full menu here. 

To complement the new premium menu, the airline will bring in a fresh assortment of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for premium passengers.  “Travellers will be able to choose from a wide range of premium wines and spirits by local and international producers such as DGB – SA’s largest producers of wine brands: Bellingham, Boschendal, Backsberg, and Fryer’s Cove,” said Lift co-founder, Jonathan Ayache.
