South African travellers booked on Royal Caribbean cruising holidays over the next few weeks won’t be affected by the cancellation of the Grandeur of the Seas voyage.

Following a fire on the ship in the early hours of Monday while more than 2 000 passengers were on board, Royal Caribbean International announced that it would not be continuing with the remainder of the cruise to allow for damage to be repaired.

“There are no South Africans booked on Grandeur of the Seas for its next two sailings and there isn’t any impact on South African guests booked on any other Royal Caribbean International cruise,” adds Tracey Krog, marketing manager for Cruises International.

In an official statement, RCI promised to give passengers  who were on board during the fire a full refund of the cruise fare as well as a discount on a future cruise of 50% of the fare paid for the May 31 Grandeur of the Seas sailing.

Grandeur of the Seas was on a seven-night sailing that departed Baltimore, Maryland, on May 24, and included calls at Port Canaveral, Florida; CocoCay and Nassau, Bahamas.
