THE DPE has announced that Philip Saunders has been appointed the new interim ceo of SAA.

Philip previously held the position of chief commercial officer for the airline and has had a long career with a number of airlines. He held executive positions in Kuwait Airways, Air Malta and Caribbean Airlines.

Prior to joining SAA, he held the position of vp air commerce for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Travelport.

The DPE describes him as an experienced airline executive with a commercial background. Philip will be working closely with an interim board to implement the restructuring of SAA.

* The original article reflected the DG's transcribed remarks suggesting Philip Saunders worked for IATA. While Philip has worked closely with IATA in many of his roles in aviation, he has never worked for IATA.
