Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has unveiled THE RIG, the world’s first offshore adventure tourism destination in the Arabian Gulf.

In line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, THE RIG aims to grow the tourism sector while contributing to employment opportunities and diversifying the country’s economy, reports The National News.

THE RIG, 40km from the coastline near Al Juraid Island and Berri Oil Field, is designed on an offshore platform that will be developed by the Oil Park Development Company.

The development will house unique hospitality offerings, such as three hotels providing 800 rooms and 11 restaurants. THE RIG will also have an extreme sport and adventure park, a marina, helipads, a diving centre, an amusement park, a splash park, an E-sports centre, an immersive theatre and a multi-purpose arena.

THE RIG is expected to attract over 900 000 annual visitors by 2032, appealing to a diverse range of domestic, regional and international audiences.
