Tel Aviv airport to become fully digital

Israel Airports Authority (IAA) has announced plans that will see Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport become fully digital next year.

According to the IAA, over NIS50 million (US$15 million) has been allocated to the project, reports Times of Israel.

Online check-in will be expanded to include luggage and security checks and self-service stations will be placed in the departure hall, where travellers can weigh and tag their own luggage. They will also be able to pay for extra weight if needed at the stations, reports Ynet News. The luggage will be taken directly to the aircraft, without the need to submit to a security check.

The proposed upgrades are set to reduce the check-in procedure by up to 30 minutes.
