Top Johannesburg hotel closes its doors

The Westcliff Hotel shut down operations on June 30 and is expected to only open again in July 2014, following renovations.

This comes after Orient-Express Hotels Ltd announced in July last year that it would be selling the hotel. The transaction was completed at the end of 2012.

A hotel spokesperson says it is unclear at this stage what the new identity of The Westcliff will become but it will reopen once renovations have been completed. The website states: “The Westcliff Hotel Johannesburg is currently closed for a complete transformation including a full renovation of guest rooms, newly designed restaurant and bar, and a new spa. The hotel is scheduled to reopen in Spring 2014.”
