Tourists go 'wild' at top attraction

FOLLOWING the "enormous success" of the 'Wild Lights at the Johannesburg Zoo' held from July 21 to August 13, a proposal has been put to SA's electricity supplier, Eskom, to extend its sponsorship period.
This, according to a spokesperson at the Johannesburg Zoo, who says more than 30 000 people attended the displays - held on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays - over the four-week period.
"These figures far exceeded our expectations and we achieved our goal of enhancing Johannesburg's image as a tourist-friendly city."
The 183 000 lights - which turned the zoo into a "magical fantasy fairyland" - will "definitely" feature again over Christmas, but whether they will be displayed again before then, is at the discretion of the sponsors.
