Train travel round up

Eurostar resumes direct Amsterdam-London services

Eurostar has resumed its direct service between Amsterdam and London for the first time since June last year.

Eurostar’s resumption provides three daily services between London St Pancras and Amsterdam Centraal on weekdays and Sundays (two on Saturdays).

A temporary terminal closure will take place at Amsterdam Centraal from March 20 until April 22 to facilitate further platform renovations.

Enhanced services and facilities will include an exclusive boarding point for a seamless travel experience.

By September, a full capacity of up to 650 passengers from Amsterdam will be introduced.

Looking ahead, Eurostar’s aim is to expand to five daily services between London and Amsterdam by 2026.

Brussels-Venice sleeper train

During its inaugural journey from Brussels to Venice, European Sleeper’s night train was stopped in Innsbruck, Austria, due to a lack of locomotive escort trains to accompany the Sleeper into Venice.

Euronews.com reported that passengers were required to disembark and move to a different train authorised to enter Venice.

Train travel experts claim that the sleeper was meant to be accompanied by two locomotives as the Italian rail network no longer allows light engine movement around Venice.

Although passengers did eventually reach Venice, the industry has voiced concerns about whether the highly anticipated route will be reliable for its twice-weekly services throughout February and March.
