Transfer chaos for Olympics?

27 Jun 2024

Travel agents are likely to find difficulties when trying to book transfers in France for their clients during the Olympic Games period. And passengers might need special new instructions on how and where to find their transfers.

Servantrip, a B2B tour, activity and transfer platform, has warned that from July 15 to September 8, there may be congestion around the city.

And on July 26, the opening ceremony along the Seine will result in road closures in surrounding areas, reports breakingtravelnews.com.

Servantrip recommends that travel agents and tour operators inform their clients that there may be issues with transfers, including the following:

  • Delays and early reprogramming: Due to potential delays, schedule pick-ups for clients earlier to account for traffic jams.
  • Changes in pick-up points: Some pick-up points will change, requiring clients to walk to accessible areas.
  • Changes in drop-off locations: Clients may need to walk from their drop-off locations to their destinations in more inaccessible areas.
  • Possible cancellations: Fleet management issues may arise due to flight delays, security measures, and potential protests, making it difficult to reassign vehicles to services.

To mitigate such challenges and issues, travel agencies and tour operators should inform their clients they should obtain a QR code (‘laissez-passer’) for access to security perimeters, as drivers are unable to obtain these QR codes on their behalf.

To offer clarity on obtaining QR codes and on whether a QR Code is required for specific areas, the French government’s Ministry of Transport website has provided an interactive map offering detailed information.
