WELL-known international golf personality, Gary Player, announced his endorsement of "South Africa's first integrated tourism package in the form of three CD ROMs" at his Blair Atholl estate in Johannesburg last night.
The first of the CD ROMs -the beta version - was introduced at Indaba 2000 in Durban by the Division for Roads and Transport Technology (Transportek) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in a joint venture with South African Tourism (Satour).
Acting chief executive officer of Satour, Moss Mashishi, said at the Indaba launch: "As part of our ongoing initiatives to market South Africa through as many mediums as possible, Satour believes this initiative will go a long way towards exposing our beautiful country."
According to him, the CD ROM package will run in tandem with Satour's new
international marketing campaign to "create a holistic information technology marketing solution".
Chris Rust, executive project manager for the new series says the package is more than just "another multimedia presentation".
"It is an interactive experience, through the CD ROM package, the user has access to the full range of tourism attractions and industry-related services in easy to understand language, enhanced by excellent photographs."
Global car rental company, Avis, has also announced its endorsement of the product and has committed to promoting the product to all its users and related sectors.
A fully revised version of the CD ROM series will be released in Hanover, Germany during the international Expo 2000 held in June, attended by approximately 40 million visitors over a five-month period.
