A report in Politicsweb has raised hopes that vaccinations for travel purposes could be on the horizon for South Africans sooner than originally thought.
The website reports that that there is no legal restriction on the private sector when it comes to purchasing COVID-19 vaccines.
This came after the two organisations, Solidarity and AfriForum, threatened legal action against the government, seeking to have any existing legal exclusion of the private sector in the purchasing of vaccines declared unconstitutional, thus preventing the ‘nationalisation’ of the vaccine process.
“The government has now admitted under oath in its court documents that there is no statutory restriction on the private sector regarding the purchase of vaccines. There's now legal certainty that the private sector may purchase and distribute vaccines,” said coo of Solidarity, Dr Dirk Hermann.
People wanting a vaccine purely so that they can board a flight in the near future and be permitted to take a holiday in a country such as Seychelles, should then be able to do so without having to wait for the slow-moving machinery of government to reach them.
