Westin Hotels & Resorts has opened its first property in the Maldives, while ONYX Hospitality Group has announced plans to open a property in 2020, its second in the Maldives.
The Westin Maldives Mariandhoo Resort is on an island in the Baa Atoll, close to Hanifaru Bay. It offers 70 villas and suites, 41 of which are on the island while the remaining 29 are over water. The overwater villas are around 200 sqm each.
Dining facilities include Japanese cuisine, seafood, Chinese, Indian and Maldivian, as well as Asian street food dishes. The Sunset Bar serves tapas and cocktails.
The resort also features a spa, gym, and pool as well as tennis, volleyball and basketball courts. The resort also has a kids’ club and a PADI dive centre.
ONYX will open a 200-villa private island resort in the third quarter of 2020, which will occupy a secluded island in the Raa Atoll, north-west of Malé.
Sixty of the villas will be located overwater, while the remaining 140 villas will be on the beach, with 50 beach villas providing larger family-friendly layouts and private plunge pools. A number of the villas will either interconnect or be configured with dual key access, offering flexibility for families and large groups.
