UK to scrap family seating charges

The UK government plans to ban extra charges for parents to sit with their children, requiring airlines to seat children under 14 with a parent or accompanying adult free of charge.

The plans were announced earlier this month as part of efforts to ease the cost of living. Currently, a parent and child can be charged up to £104 (R2 280) to sit next to each other on a return journey.

Passengers will also be able to correct simple name errors on bookings free of charge, ending fees of up to £40 (R877) for minor mistakes or administrative changes.
