The US Government saw a major increase in complaints from angry air passengers in August, receiving more than 7 000 complaints. This is 320% up from pre-pandemic times, and 6% up from x July this year.

"Flight problems was the highest category of the complaints received in August 2022," said the Department of Transportation. "Of the 7 243 complaints received, 2 321 (32%) concerned cancellations, delays or other deviations from airlines' schedules."

In August, United Airlines had the highest number of cancelled flights; 3,6% of flights were cancelled on its network. American Airlines was close behind at 3,5% of all flights cancelled, followed by Southwest Airlines at 2,7%.

Delta Air Lines, followed by Alaska Airlines and Spirit Airlines, operated the most flights arriving on time, CNN points out.

According to FlightAware, more than 15 000 flights were cancelled in August on US-based carriers, while more than 155 000 flights operated by US-based airlines were delayed.
