Wales to introduce tourist tax

07 Jan 2025
Comments | 0

Wales has introduced a Bill enabling councils to raise a levy on overnight visitors via their accommodation, effective 2027.

The levy will be £1,25 (R29) per person per night for visitors staying in accommodation in Wales, or £0,75 (R17) for visitors staying in campsites and hostels.

The levy will not apply to visitors staying with family, or those staying for an extended period.

The estimated £33 million (R759 million) raised from the tax annually will be used to assist the government’s efforts to preserve the Welsh language by reforming school curriculums and promoting Welsh-medium playgrounds.
