Air France eyes millennials with new airline

AIR France’s new
sister airline, Joon,
which aims to cater
for millennials (18-35
year olds), is set to start
services later this year.
The new airline is part of
Air France and KLM’s Boost
project, which is intended
to compete with Gulf
carriers.
Joon will start with
medium-haul flights from
Paris-Charles de Gaulle
later this year and expand
to long-haul flights in
2018.
“With Joon, we have
created a young and
connected brand that
will give the group a new
impetus. Designed for our
millennial customers, it will
offer more than just a flight
and a fare, it will offer a
global travel experience.
We’ll provide a further
update in September,
with more details on the
brand’s content, products,
services, destinations
and range of fares,” says
Dominique Wood, evp of
brand and communications
of Air France.
In a press release, the
airline said Joon would
be an “authentic and
connected offering that
stands out in the world of
air transport”.
Agents are optimistic
about the launch of the
new airline, but say that
price is still a key factor for
millennial travellers.
Matthew Lambert, travel
consultant at STA Travel
Morningside, says an
affordable flight will attract
millennial travellers more
than amenities like in-flight
WiFi and that their clients
will always factor in price
before anything else.
No routes or details
on pricing have yet been
announced.
